Malimo

Malimo, from Marimo; are balls of green algae only found in Lake Akan, Japan. They are one of Japan's national treasures. Marimo develop to the size of golf balls in about 75 years, they also rise to the surface of the Lake every day there is sunlight.

The two Malimo murals were commissioned by a young entrepreneur fascinated by the unique qualities that made Marimo so rare.

Malimo I & II are both; 48" X 18", they are made with plexiglass, fiber optics, acrylic spheres and alkyd oil paints. The calligraphy obviously means Marimo.
