The Galaxy Mural

This 20' X 6' three dimensional light mural contains kinetic light functions, fiber optics, vacuum-formed plastics, a lunar eclipse, a shooting star, nebulas, planets, a star cluster with hundreds of fiber-optics and a supernova. The mural was created for collector and Restaurateur, David Ilan Weis, by artists Scott Matthew Crystal, Polly Chan, Matthew Coady (electrical engineer) and Robert Farrington (mechanical engineer).

Behind the Mural

Looking at the mechanics behind the mural you can see the fiber optics, light sources and the 24-hour eclipsing moon driven by an hour hand from a clock.

Shooting Star

The shooting star is operated by a 17 circuit light series that fires at periodic intervals.

Supernova

The supernova creates a bright flash of light that fades out over a half minute. The light is then refracted thru a Jupiter-scope, color sphere and concentrated by a magnifying glass.

  View From the Side

A view from an angle of how the giant mural opens upwards for maintenance. The two large steel hinges are bolted through two feet of brick to support this 1,000 pound mural.
