Sidney Freeman
Self taught, 80 year old artist with a very colorful vision and a fauvist
style. Freeman creates art from his mind's eye, bathing his figures and
background with bright colors and sounds from local bars and jazz clubs.
His choice of subject matter is taken from the world he sees around him
every day. You can almost hear the music coming from the singers, trumpets
and saxophones. Painting the waitress serving drinks amidst a smoke filled
room lit by bar signs and stage lights isn't uncommon for Freeman.
For Sidney Freeman, painting is pleasurable way to spend and evening after
operating his Plexiglass and Plastics company, J. Freeman Inc., in Dorchester,
MA. Not so long ago, a antique dealer bought his entire collection. Acrylic
paintings here are painted on an synthetic plastic board for signs, some
are painted on both sides.
